Hey remember when two dudes went undercover as a married couple in a show? And the joke WASN’T that they were two dudes and therefore GAY LOL but just the fact that they were married and these two guys would never marry each other in a million years? And that’s where the humour came from? And that the fact that gay marriage is legal and accepted as a totally normal thing wasn’t even mentioned because it’s not even seen as an issue?

No? Then you haven’t seen Babylon 5.

I don’t mean to get all ~deep and real~ on this lolarious photoset, but I fucking love Babylon 5 for this. This, and the relationship between Susan and Talia (again, accepted by all as a normal and non-controversial thing and not all HEY LOOK LESBIANS GIVE US RATINGS).

I think maybe I don’t appreciate how amazing it was to watch this show growing up and seeing this sort of thing portrayed as normal and accepted. That’s actually a really important message to give a girl just going into her teens who’s starting to realise ‘Wait, I think I like girls more than other people think I should like girls.’ The fact that it’s normal, it’s fine, it’s nothing to get all worried about. It reminds me of Ivanova’s final lines in the show - Babylon 5 taught us “that there can always be new beginnings…even for people like us.”
